Sustainable Shopping Bag Design Brief
The major assessment task in year 7 is where students design and create their own sustainable shopping bag. This project allows students to develop their knowledge of investigation and design whilst extending their skills in the safe and effective use of equipment.
You are required to write this up as a poster, and submit it with your finished product for assessment.

Investigation
- Using the design brief above, you need to target areas that you need to investigate, identify what you already know, describe what you need to find out and identify how you will seek the information.
- After you have done some research, record what you found out, or have learnt about the design issue.
- Your teacher will help you measure your fabric and applique for your bag with the help of online tutorials/patterns.
- It is necessary to identify the materials you will need to make the item and the purpose they will serve, and the tools that will be used and how to use them safely.
- Follow the instructions to produce your product. You may need to make modifications during the production of your bag, and record explanations for the changes in your journal, demonstrating reflection, research and how you have responded to feedback on your design.
- During all stages of your production, you should always follow the safety protocols of the equipment you are using and the class rules. If in doubt, please ask your teacher.
- Upon completion of your product, you are asked to test, analyse and evaluate your design and completed bag, recommending any improvements that could be made to the function and appearance of your bag.
- Consider whether you would like to make any modifications to your bag in relation to any improvements that you have identified.
