This is the first major assessment task in year 9, which is based on finishing calico fabric to create a new product. There are several components to this assessment task. The full design brief can be downloaded above.
  • Detailed Investigations on the following:
    • How fabric is made (fabric production)
    • Designing with Calico
  • Designing your product
    • Using only calico fabric, design a complete outfit (for example, a dress, or pants and a top)
    • Extension will include designing accessories to compliment their outfit
  • Planning and managing your work
    • Throughout the work from Investigation through to Evaluation, you will need to spend a good amount of time planning and managing the project
    • Develop project plans (production plan) to plan and manage projects individually and collaboratively taking into consideration time, cost, risk and production processes
  • Producing your design
    • Using the knowledge and skills gained in previous textiles units to produce the design, modifying as required
    • Safe and effective use of textiles equipment to produce the product
  • Evaluating your work
    • Produce an evaluation criteria in which to complete a self-assessment of the product (use these questions to help)
    • Write a critical reflection and honest evaluation on the investigation, design, product and project management

It is important for you to read the Problem Solving by Design and Design Brief pages on this website to effectively investigate and design their product. Students should also read about production, evaluation and planning and management to help inform the successful completion of their project.
