Year Eight Textiles
In year eight, students begin their course by revising the safe and correct use of equipment in the Textiles classroom. Students will produce poster presentations to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. Students extend their knowledge and understanding of textiles and design through the completion of two projects. The first project is the creation of a decorated calico bag where students all follow the same instructions to learn basic sewing skills and design their own screen print and applique for each side of the bag. The second project is their major assessment task, where they produce a pair of PJs. This project allows students to extend their knowledge and skills in the safe and effective use of equipment whilst learning the basics of how to measure themselves, select appropriate patterns and follow the instruction and notions to create their PJs. Students then design their own screen-print for their t-shirt, and select coordinating fabric for the shorts.
