Year 8 extension unit

Minor assessment task - printed zippered case

Welcome Madi and Rees! You are going to start semester 2 by creating a zippered case and evaluating your work. This project will form your minor assessment task for the semester. You will need to keep a running record of your work, and produce a photographic journal of your process along with your evaluation. You can find the sewing instructions for this project in the Year 9 section here.

However, this task has been modified for your extension work. Instead of using ready printed fabric, you will use plain calico fabric, and design and screen-print your own designs for both the external and lining fabric. I have a book on designing prints that you can use. If you want to create a repeated pattern, as per regular printed fabric, you can create your screen-printing stencil on acetate - a type of plastic that you can wash and print with indefinitely.

Watch the following video on how fabric is printed in bulk. This will help you with this task as well as your major assessment.

Major assessment task - Calico Challenge

At the completion of this project, you will spend the rest of the semester designing and producing a small collection of works that will be displayed in term 4. Details for this project will be posted here.
